The Challenge
Mr and Mrs Bates had an extension going on at the back of their house in Douglas and, with the room gutted back to bare brick, a rare opportunity. They could have anything. What they wanted was something modern without being cold, and characterful without being cluttered. Not just kitchen but a room the whole family would actually want to be in.
The Solution
We chose the Sheraton inset Setosa door, a design that gives you the clean lines of a modern kitchen while the inset profile adds enough depth and shadow to give the room real character. We went with two tones: Limestone on the wall units for lightness and air, Indigo Blue on the island to anchor the room and give it a focal point.
Dekton worktops and full-height splashbacks run throughout, a surface that looks beautiful and doesn’t ask much of you in return. Non-porous, virtually indestructible, and easy to keep looking the way it did on day one. Open shelving with LED lighting breaks up the wall units and stops the room from feeling like a showroom display.
The Neff appliance bank, two ovens, a microwave, and a steam oven, sits flush in a tower of tall units. The island’s downdraft hood sinks quietly into the worktop when it’s not needed, leaving the sightlines clear and the room feeling open. This is a kitchen that earns its keep every day and still looks good doing it.
